Junior Registrations in February
Junior registrations will be held in February. These will be at the Club rooms at Riccarton
Domain, from 6pm to 7:30pm in the evening. The dates are Tuesday February 2nd, Thursday the 4th, Wednesday the 10th, and Sunday the 14th.
The list of dates is here.
A gentle reminder - we have a no pay, no play policy. The club has to pass most of your subscription on to Mainland Football early in the season, and we have to do it whether you have paid us or not.
The registration form can be downloaded here.
Junior Trials in February
Junior trials will be held in February. These will be at Avonhead Park.
The list of dates is here.
Total Football Academy
Avon United is very pleased to announce the creation of the Total Football Academy. Our world class coaching team has put together a stunning program of training for juniors from 6 to 16 years old.
More details are Here.
Coaching resources
We have created a dedicated area on our website for coaches, containing some stunning resources to help you with your (much appreciated) task. You will need a username and password to access the area, which you can get from Tsetso. Click here to enter your special area.
Junior Match reports
Some of our teams are sending in regular match reports and photos. Catch them here.
Who is refereeing your games?
If you are in a Div 1 or Div 2 team, you have some official obligations around refereeing, first aid and managers. More details here.
Competition dates 2010
The first date for competition games is Saturday April 17th 2010, with Saturday August 28th the scheduled last game.
However, the last date may change if we have a lot of games rained off and have to extend the season.
JUNIOR GEAR - PLEASE GET IT BACK TO US ASAP
If you still have your son or daughters shirt please give Terry Mitchell a call
as he is sorting the approx 550 junior shirts back into kits for next season.
Coaches if you still have gear please collect it all back in and return it to Terry.
Please please don't hang on to them as it makes Terry's job a nightmare and they are expensive to replace.
One lost kit equates to a subs rise of around a dollar per player.
Thanks
CHILDRENS SAFETY AT NIGHT TO AND FROM TRAINING
Please make sure your children have working lights on their bicycles if they are cycling to and
from training. If your kids have to travel by bike at night we don't want them coming to training and risking
their lives by having no lights.
On a similar subject, parks such as Ray Blank and Riccarton Domain are public places and as such please make sure your
kids are collected promptly after practice. Coaches if possible don't leave the training area before
parents have collected their kids. If you have a problem with a parent who is persistently late let us know and
we will discuss this with the family.

Shin Pads
Shin pads are compulsory, all players must wear them. These can be
purchased from most sports shops. If you turn up to a game without shin
pads you will not be allowed to play as this is one of the basic rules
of football.
WANTED - UNUSED JUNIOR SHIRTS AND OTHER GEAR
If you have Avon United shirts that are sitting at home unused because
your coach didn't collect them off you, or you are an ex coach that
didn't hand in gear last year please contact Terry Mitchell. We have
spent a small fortune on gear and don't want to lose it, thanks.
Shirt Clashes - Away Games
There are other teams which wear green. These include Halswell, Papanui
Redwood, Mid Canterbury, Technical and Ellesmere. Please make provision
for a change of shirt, give Terry Mitchell a call (to borrow a change strip) or bring bibs before playing these teams away.
SHIRT CARE TIPS - VERY IMPORTANT
Each year we hand out hundreds of shirts to juniors.
You may wonder why some shirts have numbers that are peeling off yet
others are like new. When you wash shirts please don't use harsh
detergents and never put the shirt in the dryer. These two tips can add
years to the life of a shirt, save the club thousands of dollars and
make your son or daughter happier by having a nice looking shirt.
JUNIOR GEAR FOR COACHES AND MANAGERS
Coaches and managers - If you have run short of gear or need something
for next year please put in your requests to Terry Mitchell. Sometimes
we have spares of items in stock and if we don't we may be able to
purchase it at short notice or at least budget and plan to have it by
next season.
Also please don't take gear (senior nets, flags, ropes, standards,
balls etc from the changing rooms at Riccarton Domain as it mainly
belongs to the first and reserve teams who store it there.
SAFETY AT PRACTICE - PARENTS AND COACHES TAKE NOTE
We had an incident last season where a youth player was injured due to an
apparent collision with another player while training under the
floodlights. While everyone appreciates that soccer is a contact sport,
we don't want to injure players at training.
If you are practicing under lights or in poor visibility please take
steps to keep your players safe. This would include ensuring all
players have their coloured bibs on and trying to avoid potentially
dangerous drills.
We are working to obtain high vis training vests for all players. In the meantime
contact Terry if you need extra gear. And, if
you have any serious accidents please report them to a committee member
so that we can work to avoid repeat incidents.
PARENTS you can help by sending your son or daughter to training with light coloured clothing. Yellow or white socks and shorts and maybe a red, white or yellow
shirt would assist. If your children wear black, navy blue or other dark colours their chances of having an accident due to poor visibility at training
are greatly increased.
