Final Pre-season Game v Northern Hearts, Aorangi Park, 27 March, Result 4-2 win
We got an early goal after Sinclair came up from the back and drove low and hard. Mid way through the first half Glenn hit a half volley which Sam directed into the net with his head to make it 2-0 at half time. Second half and we made hard work of clearing the ball from our box and they put away a well deserved goal to close it up to 2-1. James got subbed at this point, the blame can be fairly placed on Grant as while I debated with him when to swap James out for Blair I said next out and Grant said next goal which proved to be correct! It didn't matter as we came back with another goal from Sam. Glenn made it 4 when he lobbed the keeper with a beautiful chip into the top right corner after they failed to clear the danger. We talked about players getting back to defend, unfortunately Luuk did that and got on the wrong side of one of their guys and gave away a penalty. Sam had chances to get his hattrick later and although we were well in control by the end we couldn't score again.
Not a polished performance by any means but all the guys worked through their problems and by the end we were looking good. The buildup from the back through our midfield was pleasing to the eye. Luuk had a very good game wide right and was our player of the day, Ben played well at right back when he came on and Sam looked the part when we moved him from wide man to front man. A good day's work from everyone and Northern Hearts gave us the tough physical game that we will encounter most weeks in Div 1. However we know we need to improve 100% and cut out the early mistakes when the league starts.
