CLOSING DAY 6-A-SIDE - SEPTEMBER 24
On a great day the majority of the senior club turned out for what was our best clsong day 6-a-side yet.
The Masters were defending champions, but this year they only won one game (against the first team), and the
surprise winner was the Division 3 boys. When asked to comment they said the decision by Danny Noonan to play
Masters was a key to their success. The Pressies C continued their domination over the Masters as well.
Golden boot was probably Colin Coster with 4 goals, Colin is only 10 but no one gave him any slack, well
done Colin. The closing game was a real hummer with the reserves playing out of their skins to beat the first
team 3-1.
Final positions were:
- 1st - Division 3, 15 points
- 2nd - Youth Team, 11 points
- 3rd - Canterbury League, 10 points
- 4th - Presidents C, 8 points
- 5th - First Team, 8 points
- 6nd - Reserves, 5 points
- 7th - Masters, 10 points
AVON WIN MAINLAND PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYOFF GAME 2 - SEPTEMBER 10
After 90 minutes of normal time and 30 minutes of extra time with no goals it came down to penalties.
Avon won 3-2 with one kick spare. Hero of the day was keepr Matt Thomas who not only saved two penalties
but also slotted one away against his oppsite number.

REFEREES ROOM PROJECT - It's Happened
Finally on the last day of the playoffs we got the new referees room up and working. A big thanks to Brian
Anderson and Mark Heath for their last minute work on Saturday morning.
The hot shower was appreciated by the refs and will help to maintain our credibility as a Mainland League club.
There's still some decorating and finishing off to do over the summer.
CLUBROOMS ARE SMOKE FREE THIS YEAR
A reminder that from this year the clubrooms and changing rooms are smoke free. This is in line with
government regulations, please assist us by not smoking anywhere inside the clubrooms.
MISSING SENIOR & JUNIOR SHIRTS AND SHORTS
We seem to have lost a number of shirts and shorts. This is a real pain as we have a number of
good strips with shirts missing, number 9 and number 11 seem especially popular. We have also lost a large
number of shorts. The real difficulty is it's hard to match numbers and some styles of shirt/shorts are no
longer made. Pub charity funding is REALLY tight this year and we cannot afford to replace whole strips at a
cost of $2000 each. Please look at home and bring your gear back, thanks.
CONGRATULATIONS TO PREMIER YOUTH DIV 3 TEAM
These lads won the Div 3 plate game on Saturday at Halswell Domain. On a freezing cold moring they came
back from 1-0 down to win 4-2 for the club's only Silverware this season. Well done Mark Burns & co, the club's
only successful prize-winning coaching team this year.
STEEL NET PEGS BANNED BY COUNCIL
Effective from 25 June the council has banned the use of steel/aluminium net pegs from all its grounds.
This is because too many people have left them on fields after games. A peg through their mowers causes
thousands of dollars of damage and is dangerous to their workers when bits fly though the air.

CLUB DAY SUNDAY 7 AUGUST
A very good day, though the early drizzle may have lowered the numbers who turned up. Easily the best crowd
of the season with an estimated 250 at the game. The sausages went very well (all 230 of them) and we had great support
from the club and the committee members. A special thanks also to Morgan's mum for helping out.
Unfortunately the cheerleaders weren't prepared to perform in the damp/mud as their uniform is white, hopefully
we can get them to come along during the playoffs.
The draw for the early raffle returners has been done and the winner was Luke Conden (book 2411-2420).
You will receive your fantastic Canterbury United Shirt very shortly - thanks Canterbury United.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING - CLUB NAME CHANGE
The meeting on Monday 7 March was attended by a good selection of members past and present. The result was
the motion to change the name being defeated at this stage. The main reason for this is to
allow us as a club to work on developing the idea further. This means the name will not be changed this season.
The consensus was that we do need to move on changing the club culture and that a name change and rebrand will be part of this.
It seems that no one is particularly comfortable with the present name but there wasn't the required 75% of members
willing to commit to a new name straight away. The general view seems to be that maybe a geographical name together with
Shamrock may work best for us, eg Shamrock Riccarton being used for general advertising and promotion with maybe the shorter
more catchy name of Shamrock being used on the field. This could result in say a logo with a Shamrock and the letters SRFC.
The club will be working on this over the coming months with the aim to have a proposal to present to the members
by mid season.
Thanks very much to all those who attended and presented their views.
THANKS TO DAVE BRISTOW
Dave is taking a well earned break after 3 seasons as manager of our Mainland team.
In these 3 years Dave has worked with 4 first team coaches and close to 100 players. This culminated with him being
nominated as a Canterbury coach of the season last year.
Dave was a former member of our Shamrock masters team when they were in their golden years. Hopefully Dave will find time
to come along and watch a few games this year. We would encourage all former club members to do what Dave has and
put something back into the club after you have hung up your boots. Thanks Dave.
