Club Newsletter July 2010.
Welcome to Avon United Football
Avon United is one of the largest football (soccer) clubs in the South
Island. We were formed when Riccarton was merged with Shamrock at the end of 1995. We are
based in the western part of Christchurch and draw most of our players from
Avonhead, Riccarton, Burnside, Fendalton, Ilam, Bryndwr and Hornby. Our club
rooms are at Riccarton Domain on Yaldhurst Road.
We have around 550 junior players (boys and girls) with
grades from Midget (approx 5 years) all the way to Premier Youth (under 19). We also have 10 senior mens and womens teams,
with our top teams playing in the highest local leagues.
General Club News
Pitch changes at Avonhead Park
The layout of the Midget and Intermediate pitches at Avonhead park has changed from
last year. Have a look here. for the 2010 layout.
Junior Registrations in February
Junior registrations were held in February. A gentle reminder - we have a no pay, no play policy. The club has to pass most of your subscription on to Mainland Football early in the season, and we have to do it whether you have paid us or not.
The registration form can be downloaded here.
CLUB GEAR - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE RETURN IT!
Please contact Terry Mitchell if you still have junior shirts, balls or complete kits and arrange to return them. We have put
club logos on all junior competitive grade shirts over summer but as some coaches and players have kept gear we would like to
do another run before the season start so please hand them back asap!
Total Football Academy
The Total Football Academy was very successful last year, and we are pleased to announce that it will be running
again this year. Our world class coaching team has put together a stunning program of training for juniors from 8 to 15 years old.
More details are Here.
Tsetso is also running another of his very successful school holiday programs during the July
school holidays. Again, more details are Here.

CLUB BASED REFEREES
See here for details of what the junior Div 1 and Div 2 teams have to do
about referees, first aiders, coaches and managers this year.
FIFA RESPECT PROGRAM - REFEREE ABUSE MUST STOP
Next season the Fifa Respect program for referees will be introduced. Bottom line is no respect = booking or sending off
as no abuse will be tolerated.
REMINDER - CODES OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS, PARENTS AND COACHES
A further reminder that we have codes of conduct which apply to all Avon United players, parents and coaches. We want this season to be enjoyable for
everyone. As such we want our players, coaches and supporters to treat the opposition, refs and each other with respect. Most of our teams
this year have been a credit to the club, so thanks for that. However there's been the odd minor incident reported to the committee and we do take these
seriously and investigate them.
Please take time to refresh yourself with our codes of conduct and maybe print a copy as well.
GROUND ALLOCATIONS/TRAINING TIMES 2009
The Club has arranged training times for teams
using floodlit grounds.
Coaches if your team needs to train under floodlights and you are not on this
list contact Nick Williams. Last updated May 11.
TEAM CARDS - POST THEM TO MAINLAND IF YOU GET AN OFFICIAL REF
Just a friendly reminder that if you get an official ref for a game (junior or senior) then you must post in the completed team card as soon
as possible after the game. If Mainland haven't got the card by the Tuesday following the game they fine us.
DUGOUTS AND TRAINING GOALS MUST BE REMOVED FROM RICCARTON DOMAIN AFTER USE
If you use the portable goals or dugouts it is your responsibility to
move them back off the ground, lie them face down in a safe position and padlock them back up. This is to prevent injury to people who may
climb on them or trip over them. If someone injures themselves as a result of the dugouts or portable goals being left out you will be held responsible.
Thank you.
Juniors take note, this includes you.
CLUBROOMS OPEN WINTER SATURDAYS FROM 4.30PM - ALL HOME TEAMS PLEASE COME BACK
Everyone is welcome back, seniors and juniors, on
Saturdays. The place is looking better than ever and the pies are great. Senior home teams
should come back and support the club,
if you don't we may have to raise subs again next year.
SENIOR RESULTS - RING THEM THROUGH TO ANDY BY 5.30PM ON SATURDAYS
If you want your result in the paper on Monday and the correct position in the league tables then YOU
MUST text or ring us and tell us what it was (021 226 0159). Even if
you play an away game it's not hard to ring or txt the
club. You have been told, no phone = no result and the fine from
Mainland Soccer will be handed on to your team.
If you have a query about a result or league table these must also go
via Nick as Mainland Soccer have told us they will not respond to
enquiries that don't come from club officials.
CLUB PARTNER / SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES
We currently have 2 club partners, United Paints and Russley Physio. Please support these businesses (first team
doing a good job keeping Russley Physio going).
We want to be active in the community much more this year and provide
an avenue for businesses to have a profile through our club's 600 plus
members and their families and friends (who number in the thousands).
Please talk to a committee member if you would like your business to be
associated with the club or a particular team.
REMINDER:NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING - Sunday 28th of March, 7pm at the clubrooms
